A Chiropractic Education

Heather McDowell

Dr Heather McDowell

Heather grew up in Newmarket, Ontario Canada. She participated in various sporting activities throughout her childhood while getting adjusted regularly by her family chiropractor. She knew from an early age that she was passionate about the human body and a career in chiropractic.

Heather completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and became a certified Kinesiologist. She then decided to be adventurous and take advantage of international studies and moved to sunny California. She completed her Masters Degree in Exercise Science from San Jose State University.

She fell in love with California and decided to stay to complete her Doctor of Chiropractic. She graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose, California. She graduated Cum Laude and as class valedictorian which gave her the privilege of speaking at her commencement. She was also the recipient of the Palmer West Campus Chapter of the Pi Tau Delta International Chiropractic Honor Society Award, the oldest and most distinguished honor society in the chiropractic profession.

My Philosophy

Having a whole body view of health care, Heather believes that regular chiropractic care, along with a happy and healthy lifestyle, is the best way for the body to function optimally. She believes a strong doctor-patient relationship and patient education are the key ingredients for successful patient care. Heather is well versed in numerous chiropractic techniques, allowing her to help a wide variety of people of all ages. Techniques include: Palmer Diversified, Upper Cervical Technique, Thompson Drop Technique, Activator technique, Sports Chiropractic, Cox Flexion Distraction, and Webster Technique. She continues to pursue her passion for learning by taking post graduate seminars and certification courses and stays current with the latest research.

A world traveler, Heather has gained an appreciation for life and different cultures. She was fortunate enough to participate in the Palmer Clinic Abroad Program where she travelled to India and provided chiropractic care to patients, both adults and children, living in underprivileged communities. These varied experiences and international traveling have helped her to hone her technical skills, as well as shaped her understanding of providing quality patient care to diverse populations.

Personal Interests

When Heather isn’t adjusting clients or traveling, she is passionate about health and fitness. She enjoys playing soccer, running, hiking and practicing yoga. Heather, John, and their pets Ruby and Zoey are all enjoying their experience of living in northern England.
